According to an announcement from South African media group MultiChoice, Disney+ will launch to DStv subscribers via the Explora Ultra Decoder the same day as its wider launch in the country, 18 May 2022.
“MultiChoice customers with connected Explora Ultra decoders can enjoy the convenience of accessing all their entertainment needs in one central place,” reads the announcement from the group.
The collaboration between the two companies will also include bundle deals and limited launch offers especially, MultiChoice says, for those who are signed up to its DStv Rewards programme.
Disney+ Launches in South Africa
Disney+ is the dedicated streaming home for some of the world’s most-loved stories alongside an ever-growing collection of exclusive originals, including feature-length films, documentaries, live-action, animated series, and short-form content. The service was first announced in 2018 and will make its African debut in SA in 2022.
“This is yet another proud milestone in our partnership with the MultiChoice Group. We are delighted to be collaborating to bring South African DStv subscribers access to Disney+’s incredible catalogue of films, series, and exclusive content,” said Christine Service, SVP and GM of The Walt Disney Company Africa.
“In line with our business objective of adding value and enhancing our ecosystem, we are focused on making sure that all our customers can enjoy their favourite shows and movies anywhere, anytime, on our world-class platforms,” said Calvo Mawela, Group CEO of MultiChoice.
“The digital world has brought with it fundamental shifts and our customers are looking for convenient access to a portfolio of entertainment options. MultiChoice’s partnership with Disney+ leads with an expanded choice of content, ease, and convenience of subscription and payment, with the DStv Explora Ultra as an enabler.”
Acclaimed Series and Films
With Disney+, DStv subscribers will have access to the critically acclaimed “The Book of Boba Fett” and “The Mandalorian”, the Marvel Studios’ series “Moon Knight” and Academy Award-nominated film “Shang-Chi and the Legend of The Ten Rings’.
In general entertainment, subscribers will also be able to watch titles such as “The Simpsons”, “Queens” and “The Kardashians” to name just a few.
Subscription offers via DStv and sign-up information will be shared in due course, according to MultiChoice.
