The Nigerian parliament said its pledge to financially assist Nigerian Communication Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) in its NigComSat 2 and 3 initiatives will help boost the country’s information and telecommunications sector, as well as boost the company’s bottom line.
Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu hailed the National Assembly’s move, and said it would offer returns to both the company and the West African country.
Says Ekweremadu: “The National Assembly will do everything to assist in the actualization of NigComSat 2 and 3 because it will not only help the country to become a contemporary of other nations but it is also commercially viable; it will also help us to be counted when technology issues are discussed.”
He said NIGCOMSAT leaders should bring on board other stakeholders to enhance the success of the company’s initiatives.
This news is both good and bad. good because it is good to build on what was already started and like the deputy senate president said when the role call is made we would be there. On the contrary, i think Nigeria should be investing in the project with a better foresight than the first rush rush monkey business they did. I was embarrased all the times i visited the nigcomsta website because the i was never updated and this is supposed to be the nuclus of african technology.
What vision do we have in place for maketing and moving nigcomsat into the next stage. The goodnews is that we have bright prospects in africa because of our techonology lag but we must be ready to compete with the western countries that have already taken over our market.
I also think we need more than an engineer to head nigcomsat. we need someone who’s vast in business; the engineer can oversee the technicals. The list of what can be achieved with this can not be over emphasized but once again we need the right people doing the right things.
probably u were visiting www.nigcomsat.com, the active one is www.nigcomsat.net; .com domain was claimed so that some nefarious individuals will not hijack that domain name and use it for unlawful purposes.
