Fujitsu Siemens today introduced two new PC models geared towards energy conservation. The ESPRIMO E7935 and P7935 are billed as “0-Watt” models, meaning that these computers consume no power when in off-mode or hibernating-mode.
Even in this 0-Watt state, the machines will still remain administrable and will be able to receive software updates during pre-configured time slots.
This development represents a step forward in truly green computing, as it would previously have been necessary to physically remove a PC’s plug from the wall socket to stop it drawing power, even in off-mode.
Fujitsu Siemens reiterated the need for green computing in order to protect the environment. In a statement the company said: “Effective power management is important to save our planet and unnecessary costs, as well as keeping up productivity. According to the latest Gartner research, companies with 2,500 PCs can save more than 40,000 dollars a year by using PC Power Management Activation – and another 6,500 Dollars by turning off or unplugging machines while they are not needed. According to Gartner, many companies don’t shut down machines because they fear they will lose productivity as updates will need to be carried out during working hours.”
This latest innovation again demonstrates Fujitsu Siemens’ commitment to a product range that is environmentally friendly, following earlier innovations such as the 0-Watt Monitor introduced last year. The company holds the patent for both technologies used in its 0-Watt models.
