TWO of the world’s leading electronics exhibitions, Consumer Electronics Show (CES) and Macworld, kicks off in the United States this week.
The exhibitions are scheduled for Las Vegas and San Francisco respectively.
However, the expos suffered a major blow with the absence of some of the major players in the industry among them are influential officials Bill Gates of Microsoft and Apple’s Steve Jobs.
Analysts said the drop in the number of participants and top exhibitors highlighted the global economic recession, which has not spared the information and computer technology industries.
Meanwhile, highlights of the CES will be addressed by Microsoft chief executive officer, Steve Ballmer, who will show off the coming Windows 7 release later this year.
His Ford counterpart, Alan Mulally will deliver a keynote address on auto tech, highlighting improvements to its SYNC in-vehicle voice-activated technology and entertainment system.
The Macworld event in San Francisco will be marked by Apple Marketing Director Phil Schiller’s keynote address, which is traditionally delivered by Jobs–ITNewsAfrica.
