Nashua Mobile and Nokia today launched their Xtreme Data package, a direct rival Blackberry’s very successful BlackBerry Internet Solution (BIS).

With the Xtreme Data package, users on Nashua Mobile’s network with Nokia mobile phones, will be able to surf the net, check emails, use instant messaging and access social media networks at a fixed cost of only R59 a month.
“Xtreme Data is aimed at consumers that primarily use their mobile or smartphones for basic handheld internet access, and are seeking a predictable and fixed monthly cost for their data,” Tim Walter, Nashua’s executive head of marketing, said.
On why Nashua decided to partner with Nokia, the company said that Nokia’s browser allows for data compression, which speeds up downloads and saves time and money. Nokia’s browser also optimises the experience for internet use and makes favourite content easy to find.
“Xtreme Data’s objectives are to expand Nashua Mobile’s competitive product offering by positioning Xtreme Data with Nokia phones as a fixed cost to smartphone data services, as an alternative option to BlackBerry’s BIS offering,” Walter added.
The product will however be subject to a Fair Use Policy, after which users will be throttled down from the initial speed, and is available only on Nokia C3, X2-01, E5, E7 and E8.
