At around 11:30am, on 14 August 2014, Internet users across South Africa started tweeting that Google, YouTube and a vast amount of Google services have gone down.
The internet, and especially Google, play a vital role in day-to-business. Users search for research, images, news and other hot topics in order to stay informed and up-to-date. With the service being down, businesses, students, and even those searching for general information will be adversely affected.
At 13:00 the service is still reported as down. No official word from Google has been issued at the time of publishing.
Update: According to sources, the loss of connection to Google services is due to an ISP fault relating to Telkom.
