Last night, Apple Corporation launched the upgraded version of it’s revolutionary tablet PC, the iPad2. Set to hit the shelves in the USA on March 11th and expand into 26 more countries on March 25th, the iPad 2 will carry the same price tag as it’s older brother.
Rampant speculation marked the weeks leading up the the new tablet’s launch, and the new features on the iPad 2 are consistent with what was expected. The iPad 2 incorporates an updated ARM Cortex A9 dual-core processor, which will improve overall computing and graphics performance. The device also boasts two video camera’s (VGA on the front and high definition on the back), two case colours and a magnetic screen cover.
iPad 2 models will support both UMTS and CDMA air interface protocols, making them compatible with a wider range of mobile network operators.
And that’s just it. The new features bring the iPad 2 into line with its top competitors, such as the Motorola Xoom, they don’t actually set it apart. What does set it apart is the price. If it retails at the same price as the first generation device, the iPad 2 will cement Apple’s dominance in this market.
