Alcatel-Lucent has highlighted future mobile broadband trends by offering a live demonstration of Long Term Evolution (LTE) network in the 2.6 GHz spectrum band to reporters, analysts and customers at the company’s campus outside Paris.

“This event represents an ideal opportunity to demonstrate the enormous potential of LTE to revolutionize the wireless industry here in Europe and the tremendous benefits it offers to service providers as they look to expand their service offerings, improve the end-user experience and optimize their cost profile”, said Pierre Barnabe, President and General Manager of Alcatel-Lucent in France.

The event, which took place on 19th January in Vélizy, outside Paris, featured demonstrations of new applications conducted in partnership with other companies in the LTE “ecosystem”, including mobile device maker LG Electronics, mobile gaming company FishLabs, digital signage leader SIGNEXX and mobile security and digital security leader Gemalto.

The demonstration featured multiple, simultaneous streaming video sessions, multiplayer mobile games and photo and music downloads, as well as a transition between 3G/HSPA and LTE networks, a critical requirement for operators as they begin to deploy LTE.

Besides LTE demonstrations, Alcatel-Lucent unveiled a first live demonstration in Europe of the LTE Connected Car, developed under ng Connect Program with members QNX Software Systems, Toyota Motor Sales (TMS) USA, Inc., chumby, Kabillion and Atlantic Records.

The LTE Connected Car concept will be demonstrated again at the upcoming Mobile World Congress, February 15-18 in Barcelona. The concept proposes a personalized in-car end-user experience, with a futuristic menu of entertainment, info center, security and driving features, an excellent opportunity for automotive suppliers and network operators.

Other LTE concepts tested by Alcatel-Lucent are digital signage (with SIGNEXX), mobile gaming (with Fishlabs), Secure Anywhere (with Gemalto), that enables mobile subscribers to use a single authentication and authorization process to access multiple “cloud-based” applications and SmartPhone TV.

Alcatel-Lucent is one of the global providers in fixed, mobile and converged broadband networking, IP technologies, applications and services for service providers, enterprises and governments worldwide, offering solutions to deliver voice, data and video communication services to end-users in more than 130 countries.
