Future of Zimbabwe’s ICT sector still viable

KENNA Consulting, a South African private limited company, tasked to assist Zimbabwe restore its Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure says the future of the industry was still viable and lucrative.

In an interview with our reporters, Kenna Consulting Chief Executive Officer, Kelvin Onuoka, said confidence was being restored in the ICT sector of Zimbabwe.

Onuoka and a group of multinational South Africa company executives visited Zimbabwe last week to assess investment opportunities as well as areas of cooperation between companies of the two nations which specialize in ITC and IT.

“So far, confidence is slowly being restored in the Zimbabwean market and a good number of South African investors are beginning to see reasons to
invest in Zimbabwe.

“I must say that when we started this campaign on Zimbabwe, a lot of investors were quite sceptical and often raised concerns about the political climate in Zimbabwe.

“However, we maintained a positive attitude which is something that we have learned from Zimbabweans themselves. We know that Zimbabwe is on its way to a rapid economic recovery and will overtake many of its neighbours in a very short time,” said Onuoka.

He said Zimbabwe’s ICT industry would recover quickly arguing that the locals were full of hope and confidences insisting their attitudes were inspirational towards turning their economy around.

Onuoka told our reporter that the ICT sector was critical towards improving people’s standards of living through the smooth flow of communication using internet, cellular mobile, use of 3G and telephones respectively.

“One amazing realization which has motivated us is the ’’ZIM SPIRIT’’ which in the midst of tough times remains positive. Despite all they have gone through, Zimbabweans have managed to retain their positive attitude and sense of humour.

“That to us is success in itself and African nations must emulate this.
We have grown passionate about Zim and we will continue to promote the Zimbabwe market to investors most of whom are starting to see the light,”
said Onuoka.

Early last month Zimbabwe’s minister of Information and Communication, Nelson Chamisa and his permanent secretary Engineer Sam Kundishora were in Johannesburg’s Sandton to lure investors into the country.
