ICT research firm Pyramid Research has released a new report predicting strong growth in mobile advertising revenue streams, specifically for emerging markets. The report compares trend in emerging economies with their more established counterparts such as the U.S. and U.K.
On the African continent, the report focuses on South Africa, and highlights some interesting findings. Says Jan Ten Sythoff, manager of Mobile Content at Pyramid Research: “South Africa and Indonesia stand out as markets where the mobile sector’s share of overall advertising spending will surpass that of the Internet medium as early as 2009,”
This could mean additional revenue streams for mobile operators in the country, in both advertising and additional bandwidth used by subscribers to access rich media mobile advertisements.
Says Sythoff about the mobile advertising industry: “The development of mobile advertising is favorably affected by mobile networks’ evolution to 3G, but even basic services, such as sponsored messaging and alert systems, are enabling brands to reach a wider audience and make the most of the mobile channel,”
The report can be accessed on the Pyramid Research website at www.pyr.com.
