Microsoft South Africa has helped open a new technology centre, The Rod Colenbrander Resource Centre, for the disabled in Ashley, Pinetown.
The centre will help disabled members learns skills and help them find employment; it is hoping to find about 60 jobs for its members by the end of this year.
Microsoft, Alexander Forbes and QuadPara Association of South Africa (QASA) have all come together to undertake this project of good will. The centre uses Microsoft’s unlimited curriculum, which is associated with international certifications and it provides eight step-by-step courses in information literacy, computer Literacy and productivity applications.
QASA’s national director, Ari Seirlis said that, information technology is the future for people with disabilities. It will allow them to control their own life and is very empowering. It has opened the door for hundreds of persons with disabilities in SA who have had to face different kinds of discrimination over the course of their lives.
