Microsoft urges African ICT investment

Technology powerhouse Microsoft has urged African nations to invest heavily in advancing Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in order to fast-track economic development on the continent.

Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President for Middle East & Africa President Ali Faramawy said it’s important for the continent to drive ICT forward.

“Africa has many investment opportunities and ICT is one area some countries should invest in to help increase development growth because most countries still lag behind in this area,” he said during a lecture at the University of Zambia (UNZA) in Lusaka.

Education, Vocational Training, and Early Education Deputy Minister David Mabumba echoed Faramawy’s sentiments, adding that the university is working with Microsoft to deliver better connectivity at the institution.

“We appreciate such partnerships with Microsoft and I want to assure you that we are doing everything possible to address many challenges that our institution is faced with,” he said.
