Apple shows astonishing growth

Electronics manufacturer Apple recently revealed its astronomical sales growth, with CEO Tim Cook revealing that the company has sold 55 million iPads since the device was launched.

“This 55 is something no one would have guessed, including us. To put it in context, it took us 22 years to sell 55 million Macs. It took us about 5 years to sell 22 million iPods, and it took us about 3 years to sell that many iPhones. And so, this thing is, as you said, it’s on a trajectory that’s off the charts,” CEO Tim Cook said.

In the first quarter of this year alone, the company sold 37 million iPhones, bringing the total number of iPhones sold to a staggering 175 million – a feat not many companies can claim.

“Yes, 37 million is a big number. It was a decent quarter. It was 17 million more than we’d ever done before” Cook added.

With Apple’s massive growth over the years, the total amount of iOS devices sold (iPads, iPods and Macx computers) tops out at 316 million. Another massive feat is the fact that Apple has sold more iOS devices in 2011 than it sold Macs (122 million) in 28 years of the company’s existence.

Cook also added that Apple keeps on looking to the future, instead of dwelling on figures of the past. “…and so we’re always focused on the future. We don’t sit and think about how great things were yesterday. And I love that trait, because I think it’s the thing that drives us all forward. So those are the things I’m holding onto, and it’s a privilege to be a part of it.”
