Dabengwa appointed MTN CEO

SOUTH Africa’s second largest cellular mobile network, MTN has appointed Zimbabwean engineer, Sifiso Dabengwa as the cellular company’s new Chief Executive Officer and President.

Dabengwa is an Engineering Graduate of the University of Zimbabwe (UZ) and was Chief Operating Officer of MTN Group and CEO of MTN Nigeria before his elevation to the top job.

The Zimbabwean engineering graduate replaces Phuthuma Nhleko who will step down early next year.

Announcing his appointment, MTN said in a statement the position of chief operating officer has been abolished and instead would appoint a new chief executive of its international operations.

Before joining the MTN in 1999, Dabengwa headed Eskom’s distribution division, where he controlled a multibillion-rand budget in a division employing 17 000 people and generating revenues of more than R20bn/year.
