ABSA loses Group Financial Director to Telkom

Telkom Group has appointed former ABSA Group Financial Director Jacques Schindehütte as their new Chief Financial Officer (CFO), a position that’s been effective since 1 August 2011.

During a media briefing held last week in Johannesburg, South Africa, Schindehütte acknowledged the real challenges facing Telkom and highlighted the reasons he joined the company.

Schindehütte began his career at then Arthur Young in 1983, now known as Ernst and Young.
He then moved to Transnet where he held several senior managerial positions for 14 years before joining ABSA Group.

At ABSA Group, he played an integral role in Barclays’ acquisition of the financial institution.

Real Challenges

“My job is to make sure that the base camp is in order. I’m well aware of the colourful history at Telkom,” says Schindehütte.

Commenting on how he will assist with driving Telkom’s customers’ needs, Schindehütte says “Customer’s needs cannot be satisfied without a skilled workforce. The South African public wants a national champion.”
Schindehütte is passionate about finance and declared that he’s looking forward to working for a competent Telkom CEO, Nombulelo Moholi. “She loves people and is determined to succeed,” says Schindehütte.

Schindehütte is a qualified Charted Accounted (CA) with a BCom (Hons) and a higher diploma in Taxation.

Deon Frederick was the acting Telkom CFO prior to Schindehütte’s appointment.
