JSE Launches ‘Claim It’ Campaign with Lucas Radabe as Ambassador

Must Read

The Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) launches its “Claim It” campaign, pushing South Africans to determine whether they are potential shareholders entitled a portion of the R4.5 billion in unclaimed dividends.

The “Claim It” initiative is a collaborative effort between the JSE and some of its largest listed companies, aiming to return unclaimed dividends to their rightful owners.

To further drive awareness, the JSE has appointed Lucas Radebe as an ambassador of the campaign. Lucas, one of South Africa’s most respected and trusted sports figures, is known for his legendary football career, charitable work, and reputation as an icon of inclusivity. He embodies the values of trust and integrity central to this initiative.

The JSE currently has access to nineteen issuer share registries and will endeavor to reunite nearly 375,000 former employees, shareholders, or beneficiaries of deceased estates with their unclaimed funds.

Several factors contribute to people not knowing they have unclaimed dividends. These include:

✅ Changes in banking account details  – FICA details may also be required/outstanding

✅ Changes in contact details – FICA details may also be required/outstanding

✅ Death of a family member who may have been a shareholder

✅ Award of shareholding you may not be aware of, such as an Initial Public Offer (IPO) or BEE Scheme

✅ Shareholder not having an active credit record and is untraceable

The documents required for the verification process include:

– A valid South African ID

– Current contact information, such as a cellphone and landline number, as well as an email address

– Proof of address

The JSE will then verify whether the details provided match those of the shareholders in the registries.
