PS4 owners can now download the official demo for the eagerly awaited Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Developer Square Enix released the demo yesterday for the upcoming game on PlayStation Network across the world.
First announced in 2015, the recently delayed game is set to be released on April 10th. The game itself is a remake of the ubiquitous classic, Final Fantasy VII for the PlayStation (1997). The original game is thought by many to be one of the greatest games of all times and is the most enormously popular Japanese RPG ever made.
Originally releasing on 3 separate CDs, Final Fantasy 7 told the story of blonde-haired protagonist Cloud Strife as he and his party of eco-terrorists set out to dismantle an evil corporation that is destroying the planet for its resources, all the while trying to solve the mystery of pop-culture icon and mega supervillain Sephiroth.
The 2020 remake, however, will not be the entire story, but only about the first quarter of the original game remade with next-generation tech. Other differences will include an entirely brand new combat system that takes inspiration from the previous few Final Fantasy games, especially 2016’s Final Fantasy 15.
The game that’s releasing this April will instead cover the opening Midgar section of the original game, with the developer stating that many more “episodes” covering the story are planned in the future.
