On 30 July 2019, the SA Innovation Summit announced, in partnership with Vinitech and the French Embassy in South Africa, the prize for the top South African start-up in the 2019 Winetech Pitching Den. Vinitech and the French Embassy will present the first-placed South African start-up with a return flight to France that will also include transfers to Bordeaux and tickets to the 2020 Vinitech Global Tradeshow.
The winning start-up will receive an exhibition stand in the start-up area at Vinitech and will also present at the Forum des enterprises. In addition to this, the winning start-up will be awarded an invitation to the Vinitech Gala evening where their company will also be promoted. Vinitech is said to be the benchmark event for innovations in the vegetable, wine and arboriculture production industry in Bordeaux which attracts over 45,000 and 800 exhibitors from over 70 countries.
Vinitech aims to facilitate meetings and increase business by offering numerous services to connect professionals, exhibitors and visitors. These services consist of the Business Meetings facility, which helps delegates identify and schedule meetings with prospective partners.
The partnership between the French Embassy, SA Innovations Summit and Vinitech aims to increase the global reach of start-ups in both the French and South African wine industries. The partnership aims to achieve this goal by facilitating market access and business opportunities across both France and South Africa.
The Winetech Pitching Den is currently looking for agri-tech innovators and start-ups who are providing solutions and products which can ultimately be commercialized to wine producers. The Pitching Den is set to take place on 12 September 2019 in Cape Town.
