South African based internet service provider Internet Solutions, a division of Dimension Data, has revealed that it has recently signed an agreement to purchase several assets as well as business divisions from Mweb Connect.
According to the company, Mweb Connect will retain its ISP business; however, the Mweb Wi-Fi business does not form part of this agreement.
According to the company, and subject to competition tribunal approval, the transaction will see the transfer of the network assets and bandwidth contracts of Mweb Connect to Internet Solutions. The deal also includes the acquisition of Optinet and Mweb Business. Mweb Business, Optinet and Mweb Connect engineering and support employees will transfer to Internet Solutions, too.
Dimension Data Middle East and Africa CEO, Derek Wilcocks, stated in a press statement that: “MWeb Business and Internet Solutions will be able to serve this market segment more competitively and ensure that the ICT offerings for this sector are designed and supported in a way that is economically viable.”
Mweb Connect was founded in 1997 and is an unlisted entity. Optinet will continue to provide services to Naspers group companies. Mweb Business is focused on the small and medium enterprise (SME) market in South Africa and has 5,000 clients across a range of vertical market segments.
