According to a report published on Tuesday by RNCOS, the Nigerian telecom subscriber base is expected to grow some 13 percent through 2014. The report says that the country has established itself successfully as the largest market in Africa and will continue to increase in the coming years.
“Our research has found that, the off take of 3G services in the country will increase in the coming years [and] will witness significant developments in the Nigerian 3G market as the government is aiming to put all the telecom operators on board so as to find a way to accelerate the acceptance of 3G technology,” said a press release from the research group.
The report said that increased competition has been instrumental in lowering prices and enabling a larger number of Nigerians to subscribe to mobile services.
“Although the primary focus of operators initially were on high-end population, but now all these operators will strive hard to attract more customers to their 3G base to increase revenues,” added RNCOS.
The report comes on the heels of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) efforts to increase the quality of mobile services after complaints had become to embattle operators and the government was forced to intervene.
Prices, analysts say, are expected to continue to drop as competition increases and more and more Nigerians will be looking to enter the market in the coming years.
