THE government owned cellular mobile network, NetOne says it aims to increase its subscriber base to two million.
NetOne is Zimbabwe’s third largest cellular company.
Announcing the latest development was NetOne’s Managing Director, Reward Kangai, shortly after receiving financial injection from from Export-Import Bank of China, which is aimed at improving the company’s communication.
The Export-Import Bank of China gave NetOne US$45 million (about R342 million) following some bilateral talks between Zimbabwe and China.
“Our expansion programme was being funded by internally generated funds and it means we are going to do a lot more than we have done in the past.
“This facility will provide additional switching capacity and by the time we are done, we should have more than seven million capacity on our network.
“They (the loans) provided a capacity of 60 base stations and 60 000 subscribers. We have capacity of over 500 000 and more than 300 base stations,” Kangai said.
He said the financial boost would fund NetOne’s network expansion programme.
