Telkom dismiss claims CEO may retire prematurely

Must Read

Telkom Group CEO Reuben SeptemberSOUTH Africa’s national operator, Telkom has vehemently denied media reports speculating that their Chief Executive Officer, Reuben September may quit his post before the expiry of term.

Responding to questions from our reporters, Telkom’s Group Communication & Brand Specialist, Pynee Chetty, said such rumours lack basis and substance.

“Since the announcement was made only two weeks ago, Mr Reuben September is very much in office and continues to lead Telkom’s Executive Team.

“His contract only expires in November 2010 and we are not advised as regards any potential earlier date which he and the Board might have agreed,” said Chetty.

He said the process to appoint a chief executive officer at Telkom was driven by the Board arguing that the fixed line telecommunications giant was not in a position to comment until advised by the Board.

“No Acting CEO has been appointed as Mr September remains in office,” Chetty added.

The South African media on Tuesday claimed Mr. September was frustrated by the Board and was considering an early departure.
