Ericsson has announced that it will provide complete 3D video processing solutions to sports TV channel ESPN, through ESPN 3D, the industry’s first 3D sports television network.
ESPN 3D features encoders and receivers tuned for ESPN 3D broadcasts and high quality HD experiences.
“Our consumer labs research consistently shows that high quality pictures are the number one consumer desire in today’s TV market”, said Staffan Pehrson, Head of Solution Area TV, Ericsson.
According to Pehrson, 3D is the next wave of consumer innovation, following HDTV’s movie-theater experience.
ESPN will use both Ericsson 3D and HD products range and solutions for direct-to-home.
The ESPN 3D channel will also play a major role in broadcasting events like the World Cup and X Games for the first time in 3D to sports fans worldwide.
