The total number of mobile subscribers in Kenya is expected to grow exponentially to 21 million by the end of 2010, according to Worldwide Mobile Industry Handbook 2009, Portio Research. One of the country’s largest operators reported over 85 million SMSes for New Year’s Eve 2009, and a similar number for New Year’s Day, which highlights the continuing popularity of SMS messaging.
