IN a first for South African football, telecommunications company Telkom has launched a desktop widget to keep online football followers up to date with developments around next month’s Telkom Charity Cup.
The new pop-up style feature, which was launched in conjunction with the Premier Soccer League on Friday (today) in Johannesburg, is downloadable from the Charity Cup website, www.charitycup.com and www.psl.co.za.
By downloading the widget, online fans will no longer need to visit the respective websites to access the information but access it from their desktop.
Addressing journalists, PSL spokesperson, Altaaf Kazi hailed the initiative by Telkom.
“We are grateful to the sponsors of the competition, Telkom for the desktop widget. It will go a long way in taking our football forward. I urge fans to download and make use of this modern technology facility,” he said.
The Telkom Charity Cup involves four teams that receive the most sms or phone call votes from fans to participate in the one-day competition.
Proceeds from the tournament, which has by sponsored by Telkom for four years, are donated to charity.
Meanwhile, the tournament has been moved from Coca Cola Park to the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg as a rugby match earlier in the week meant there will be limited time to prepare the stadium and set u necessary facilities for the event.
