Johannesburg (IT News Africa) — SOUTH Africa’s Department of Communications intends to publish Set Top Box Manufacturing Sector Development Strategy for the country by September. 2009.
It has invited submissions by stakeholders on the project.
“The Department invites written comments on the proposed Strategy and must be received within 14 working days of the date of the publication of this notice (07 August 2009),” the government Gazette dated 22 July announced.
The announcement also noted that comments received after the set deadline would be rejected.
The Set Top Box Manufacturing Sector Development Strategy is one of strategies that pave way for the migration from analogue to digital broadcasting.
Presenting the Department of Communications (DOC) budget to Parliament recently, Communications Minister Siphiwe Nyanda said that while the department recognized the complexity of the digital migration process, significant progress had been made to meet the November 1, 2011, analogue switch-off date.
