THE Communication Workers Union (CWU), which represents workers in the South African telecommunications sector, has declared a dispute with the South African Post Office (SAPO) in an attempt to conclude long outstanding grievances.
These include salary disparities and the job grading, which it said is unduly delayed by SAPO. Says Gallant Roberts, CWU Secretary General: “The non-conclusion of these matters is tantamount to financial robbery which denied and still continues to deny CWU members and their families the opportunity to realize a better life.”
He said CWU has also recalled a number of other substantive matters which were deferred by management to task teams and sub-committees, to the National Negotiating Forum. The National Negotiating Forum is expected to deal with and conclude all these outstanding matter before commencement of the 2009 –2010 negotiations.
“CWU will no longer accept deferrals of substantive matters or failures to conclude deferred substantive matters within the specified period/s,” Roberts warned.
