Sony Ericsson rewards innovative companies


ONE of the continent’s prominent players in the cellular phone industry, Sony Ericsson, has pledged its commitment to the third-party mobile content development community, by revealing the winners of the second annual Content Awards competition.

The winners include Upvise, Flashlite Wallpapers, Eco-mateSpb Traveller and GPSed, among others. None of the winning entries were from the continent.

Sony Ericsson said it received hundreds of entries for this year’s competition, adding that the selected nominees were judged by a panel of industry experts and thought leaders.

The criteria used to choose the winners were ease of use, innovation, look and feel, entertainment or usefulness value and in some cases, audio performance, it said.

“The high standard of competition entries shows that the mobile content industry is alive with innovation and energy,” said Björn Ahlberg, Head of Sony Ericsson Content & Services.

“We are thrilled to showcase the best in mobile content and applications from the third-party developer community and will continue to support the unique propositions and consumer experiences generated by the mobile content ecosystem.”

He added, “The judging sessions underscored the quality of the content submitted,” said Jens Greve, Head of Developer Program at Sony Ericsson. “We were all impressed with the creativity of the content and the jury had a difficult job selecting the most intuitive, entertaining and useful submissions from a very strong field.”
