SOUTH Africa’s Communications Workers Union (CWU) has brought Telkom’s sale of a percent stake to Vodafone once again.
The trade union wants the transaction to the United Kingdom based company investigated as well as the restructuring of Telkom’s fixed-line operations.
The union met in Johannesburg this week where it called for such action.
CWU said it had evidence that Telkom staff altered documents to influence tender outcomes and alleged there was bribery concerning the Vodafone sale.
As political tensions simmer in South Africa, CWU also accused the Congress of the People, a splinter party from the ruling African National Congress for what it alleged was a controversial sale of the 15 percent stake.
Department of Communications director-general, Lyndall Shope-Malofe is a member of the party.
Media reported that the department failed to meet with Nigeria’s Globacom, which also bid for a stake in Vodacom, but rushed the Vodafone deal through.
