Nigeria hosts information tehcnology confrence on Nov 20-22

AFRICA’S most populous nation, Nigeria, will host its first information technology (IT) exhibition in Lagos from November 20-22.

According to the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), the umbrella body of all information and technology professionals, the exhibition, dubbed Nigeria Information Technology Exhibition (NITEX), will see computer and information experts from around the country, drawn from the private sector and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), among others, converge on the commercial capital city.

Addressing journalists here, the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) president, Professor Charles Uwadia, said NITEX would present various key players in the field of computer and science with an opportunity to interact and exchange expertise with a view to meet the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

“The Nigeria Information Technology Exhibition is the first of its kind as it is expected to showcase diverse information technology products and not just software. In this exhibition, we expect various institutions of higher learning such as universities, colleges, among them government departments, NGOs and the private sector, to interact and exchange expertise.

“The exhibition is also open to schools with information and technology products. The door is open even to government institutions that have leverage on information technology to applying governance in their respective institutions, and they are expected to show the world how information and technology has redefined governance in their own institutions,” said Prof. Uwadia.

He said NITEX was also open to dignitaries from diplomatic community, policy makers, members of the public, private and education institutions, with a view to enhance and embrace information technology skills in the country.

“Given the crucial role information technology is playing and will continue to play in socio-economic and technological development of Nigeria and the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals, it has become imperative for all stakeholders to partner and be stronger in moving the industry forward, and it is for this reason that Nigeria Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) is partnering Nigeria Computer Society in pursuit of its mandate to drive the development and growth of information technology companies and institutions in the country,” said Prof. Uwadia.

He said the exhibition would be a great success in showcasing latest technologies, strategies, and computer trends with the aim of harnessing them for practical development and uplifting of people’s lives.

Come November 2-20, Nigeria will be seeking to scale greater heights in information technology.
