MTN Uganda has entered a new era with 2 million subscribers having signed onto the MTN Zone, an innovative tariff structure, the company said.
MTN Uganda said this is one of the broadest product uptakes in the ICT industry.
The Daily Monitor reported today that customers who migrate to the Zone benefit from tariff discounts tied to when and where they make their calls. Those discounts can be as high as 99% for those who chose to call at times say around mid night when traffic on the network is low or at places with few callers, mostly in villages.
MTN’s Chief Operations Officer, Mr Erik Van Veen said the average discount experienced by customers who had joined the Zone were 55% during the day, across the country.
That meant, he said, that a minute’s call in some areas costs Ushs216 from Ushs420, a saving of Ushs240 per minute. “Our analysis shows that the average discount received during the night is 90% across the country,” Van Veen asserted.
