African and Middle East Telecom Weekly News reported that Etisalat Egypt has inked a deal with Huawei, a China-based equipment manufacturer, for the expansion of its mobile phone network in the country. Huawei will be responsible for offering an end-to-end solution to the carrier to construct a wireless access network, core network and transmission network.

Saleh Al Abduli, the CEO of Etisalat Misr, stated that the company chose Huawei as its equipment supplier after receiving the mobile phone license in 2006. Etisalat Egypt has again chosen the company for network expansion to provide high-quality services to its subscribers in the region.

Etisalat is the newest mobile operator to commence operations in Egypt and at the end of the second quarter of 2008 had some 4.5 million subscribers, representing a 12 percent share of the mobile market.
