The Agha Khan Foundation and Microsoft are planning to open Community Technology Centres (CTCs) in Tanzania.
Humphrey Odhiambo, Microsoft Communication Director, said that the project is a key beneficiary of the Microsoft and Aga Khan Foundation Partnership for development in the ICT area.
Agha Khan Foundation and Microsoft signed a memorandum of understanding to launch a programe that will be supported by the international Youth Foundation, which will start in Tanzania.
The partnership aims on expanding youth empowerment in the hospitality industry. Affordable computers will be used at centres which will be used for training. 13 community training centres will be established to train young people.
The focus will be on training unemployed youth to help enhance their opportunities for employment and income generation.
According to Directors of Microsoft and the Aga Khan Foundation, they will also explore areas and research new technologies, which will be relevant to the rural populations and ways of raising awareness about the needs of the underserved rural segment among software developers in universities around the world.
