Nigeria: MTN, Glo & Zain to cut tariffs

ernest_ndukwe.jpgNigerian operators, including MTN, Globacom and Zain have agreed to cut down on tariffs on text messages – better known as sms’s.
The Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) brought the operation together in Lagos, at a consultative forum on the call to reduced sms costs.
Ernest Ndukwe, Executive Vice Chairman of the commission said that the sms tariffs are too high and do not encourage proper usage of this form of communication. The NCC called upon operators and other stakeholders in the industry because it did not want to force determined prices into the market.
The NCC did however issue instructions to operators, so that they can review their sms prices, if they are reluctant.
