Nigeria: Alheri fails to commence service after securing 3G license

NCC Vice Chairman, Ernest Ndukwe said the commission has written to seek a clarification from Alheri following its failure to commence service within the period stipulated in the licence it was awarded.

He noted that the failure of any operator to rollout service within a stipulated time was usually counter-productive as the operator was the one that loses the most. According time, it does not make sense for an operator to pay over $100m for a licence and fail to utilise it.

He added that NCC needed the clarification on the 3G frequency Alheri was given as it was a very important national resource and as such it cannot be left dormant for a very long time.

Alheri Engineering, a part of the Dangote Group secured a 3G licence along with MTN, Globacom and Celtel , now Zain for a sum of $100m each.
