Mobile phone provider, Safaricom has launched broadband Internet service in Mombasa. The firm has invested Sh1.8 billion in license fees and infrastructure development to launch the service. It is the only company in the country to offer 3G/HSDPA and the second in East Africa.
According to Michael Joseph, Chief Executive Officer of Safaricom, the G3 broadband Internet service will eliminate the challenge of limited network infrastructure and expensive Internet access. 3G technology will allow them the offer subscribers a wider range of advanced data and voice services, while achieving greater network capacity through improved spectral efficiency.
The service comes with different pricing packages, the lowest being Sh999, the most inexpensive amount for low users cost will be Sh1, 999 per month, this will allow the user to download 700 megabytes of data per month. A data bundle aimed for business executives will cost Sh3 999 and this will allow them to download 2GB.
