Social media reacts as South Africans take to the streets against corruption

The march is Pretoria is a bid to remove Jacob Zuma as the president.

South Africans are up in arms as they march in Pretoria against corruption and for the removal of Jacob Zuma as president of the country. Three main groups; The Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF), The Democratic Alliance (DA) and Save South Africa (Save SA) have occupied the city.

According to EWN the EFF had a vigil at Church Square in Pretoria inner city last night. The group had planned the march to coincide with the prosecution of finance Minister Pravin Gordhan at the Pretoria Magistrates Court but charges against the minister have since been dropped. The EFF will however continue with their march.

The DA carried banners that read “Protect our Constitution” as they walked to the Pretoria Magistrates Court.

Among the Save SA march are political leaders of the UDM, General Bantu Holomisa and COPE leader Mosiuo Lekota. Other religious leaders have joined the fight against corruption. Those joining the Save SA march were encouraged to wear clothes that have the South African flag.

Traffic in the city will be disrupted while those who plan to used the CBD have been advised to avoid the area.
