It’s been 20 years since the launch of the original PlayStation, which means that the team at Sony PlayStation needed to do something in order to celebrate this momentous occasion.
The team over at Sony have revealed the 20th Anniversary Edition of its PS4 console in order to celebrate the occasion. The console has been designed to look similar to the very first PlayStation 1 console that entered our lives back in 1994.
According to Sony, only 12,300 of the consoles will be released worldwide; however, the company has not yet stated how consumers can get there hands on the console as of yet.
The company will however, reveal details at this weekend’s upcoming PlayStation Experience. The PlayStation Experience is a massive two-day community event dedicated to the people who bring PlayStation to life. The event will be held in Las Vegas; however, Sony is very active when it comes to live streaming its events, which means that Africa could gain access to the event via the stream.
Update:
Mario Dos Santos, CEO, SterKinekor Entertainment, has stated the following in regards to the South African reveal of the console: “We at SterKinekor are very proud of the partnership that we have had with SCEE over the last 20 years, and being able to bring some of the Anniversary Editions to this market is indicative of SCEE’s continued commitment to maintaining this very much a PlayStation market!”
To celebrate the 20th Anniversary, SterKinekor Entertainment will be running a national competition in search of South Africa’s Ultimate PlayStation fans who will stand the chance of winning 20th Anniversary Edition consoles. Other opportunities for PlayStation fans to get their hands on one of these consoles will be announced in the coming weeks.
SCEI will continue to further expand the PlayStation platform to deliver entertainment experiences that are only possible on PlayStation.
