The PlayStation Plus Free Game Lineup for October 2014 has been revealed. While the lineup is rather epic, the folks over at Sony need to start integrating some of the launch titles into the monthly PlayStation Plus Lineup. Granted, some of the indie titles have been rather amazing to experience, but players need a little more at times. The PlayStation 4 launched across multiple countries from November 2013; however, PlayStation Plus is yet to feature some of the titles that launched with the console on day one, or titles that launched just after the release.
Over the past few months we have received titles like TowerFall Ascension, Strider, Doki Doki Universe, Road Not Taken, and a plethora of other titles that are great, but not spectacular. While the PlayStation 4 is being bombarded with indie titles, the PlayStation 3 has been receiving its money’s worth when it comes to the subscription service. PlayStation 3 owners have had the opportunity to get their hands on Dead Space 3, NBA 2K, Crysis 3, and PlayStation Allstars: Battle Royale. Is it not time for the PlayStation 4 to receive content that is a little fuller? Granted, this month’s PS Plus includes DriveClub; however, throwing some day one releases in would have made it that much juicer.
While the PlayStation Plus service does provide great value for money, the service has seen a rather dramatic increase in pricing in not only South Africa, but also in the Ukraine, Russia, Turkey and India regions. The reason for increase according to Sony is “due to various market conditions.” With the announcement of the price increase, IT News Africa has compiled a list of 10 games that need to hit PlayStation Plus over the next couple of months in order to give subscribers a bit more value for their money.
The following titles, in no particular order, have been out for quite some time now – and should start gracing PlayStation Plus:
1. Call of Duty: Ghosts
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is on the verge of release; however, Ghosts is still sitting pretty on the PlayStation Store for R899 for the Gold Edition. The game was released on November 15 2013 on the PlayStation 4.
2. FIFA 14
FIFA 15 is out and retailing at R899 on the PlayStation Store. Now for a new title that is a pretty standard price for PlayStation 4 titles. FIFA 14 is also on the PlayStation 4, but is still retailing for a, you guessed it, staggering R899. The exact same price as its successor. Let’s face it, FIFA 14 has run its course and should start making its way to PlayStation Plus or at least receive a discount.
3. Need for Speed: Rivals
Need for Speed Rivals also graced the launch lineup and was a pretty decent title. While the PlayStation Store still has FIFA at a rather ridiculous price, it seems as though Need for Speed: Rivals is no where to be found on the local PlayStation Store.
4. inFamous: Second Son
inFamous: Second Son is a title I have yet to play, but to honest it is only a title I will play once it hits PlayStation Plus… eventually, if ever. While the title has been discounted to R499, it would still be great to see it in the lineup for PlayStation Plus.
5. Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag
To be a pirate captain has probably been one of the greatest experiences on the PlayStation 4. Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag is quite an aged title at the moment… especially with Ubisoft revealing a new Assassin’s Creed title every chance they get. Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag is still selling for R599 on the PlayStation Store; however, maybe by letting folks try it out using the PlayStation Plus platform gamers will actually start taking note of the franchise once again.
6. Battlefield 4
Over the years I have always favoured Battlefield over Call of Duty. While Battlefield 4 has been around since the launch of the PlayStation 4, the game is still sitting at a staggering R899 on the PlayStation Store.
7. Injustice: Gods Among Us
Injustice: Gods Among Us is one of the best fighting games out there. It originally released on the PlayStation 4 on the 12th of November 2013, which makes it pretty much in its prime for some exposure on PlayStation Plus. What is disappointing is that the game is still retailing for R749 on the PlayStation Store, which is an injustice to consumers.
8. Thief
Thief is one of those games that you either loved, or hated. Yes it was extremely buggy at times; however, it did showcase some rather impressive lighting effects. While Thief’s storyline was a little all over the place… its price still has not quite budged either. Thief is sitting at R899 on the PlayStation Store; however, it is a title that should have graced PlayStation’s Free Game Lineup a long time ago.
9. Lego Marvel Super Heroes
The Lego games have captured many a hearts over the years. While there have been a few titles that did not quite live up to expectations, there are some that truly broke the mould. Lego Marvel Super Heroes is one of those titles. While this title is most definitely a game that everyone should check out… unfortunately it is still sitting at a rather outlandish price of R749 on the PlayStation Store.
10. Knack
Knack is, in my opinion one of those games every new PlayStation 4 owner should experience. Granted, the title was slated to a point; however, if any launch titles ever grace PlayStation Plus, then I would think Knack would be the first. Knack is currently sitting on the PlayStation store for R499, which is still a little high.
