Mobile phone manufacturer Nokia, in collaboration with the Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH) and Dar Teknohama Business Incubator, has organised a developer training camp aimed at equipping fresh developers with adequate skills to create apps with programming languages such as Java.
Jussi Hinkkanem, Nokia’s vice president for Corporate Relations and Business Environment for Middle East and Africa, commented:
“There is a rapid increase of mobile phone use for various purposes in the country. Our aim is to equip developers with technical knowledge regarding advanced Java development.”
The programme is set to run until 21st May 2012 and will equip participating students with technical skills related to web and mobile technologies.
There is a noticeable gap between what universities deliver to students when compared to the current world problems experienced. Thus this move is aimed at solving real world problems as well as creating jobs for graduates. This will in turn lead to development of mobile apps that increase revenue for the country.
The training was set up by January Makamba, Deputy Minister for Communication, Science and Technology of Tanzania.
