Twitter turns six today

Popular social network Twitter turns six years old today.

On 21 March 2006, company executive chairman and product lead Jack Dorsey sent out his first tweet (see below).

The quality of tweets going out has improved since then. His tweet was one of the first of billions that have been sent out to date.

Here are some fun facts about Twitter.

It took Twitter three years, two months and one day to reach a billion tweets.

After 18 months, there were over 500 000 Twitter users.

Today it is estimated there are around 500 million Twitter users.
