The Department of Communications (DoC), in partnership with the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and the University of Cape Town (UCT), is hosting the annual Kaleidoscope Academic Conference, which will take place at UCT from the 12-15 December 2011.
The conference will focus on the theme, “The fully networked human? Innovations for future networks and services”. The Kaleidoscope Academic Conference will bring together approximately 250 academics from around the world, as well as government officers, regulators and students, to:
* Increase the dialogue between academics and experts working on the standardization of information and communication technologies.
* Identify visionary ideas that will drive future technology development, and ultimately its standardisation.
* Address multidisciplinary aspects, including regulatory and societal challenges, and the role that standardisation can play.
ITU Kaleidoscope Academic Conference was first launched in 2008. It aims to increase the dialogue between academics and the experts working on the standardization of information and communication technologies.
The ITU recognises that innovative technologies are generally developed at academic institutions, and is increasingly looking to attract academics from the world’s universities and research institutions to become more involved in the ITU’s standardisation process.
South Africa as a member of state of the ITU representated by the DoC is pleased to give its support to the Kaleidoscope Conference.
