Grand Theft Auto V officially announced

For what has been a horribly-kept secret, developer Rockstar officially announced that the fifth Grand Theft Auto game is in full development.

The title will be developed by Rockstar North, and will see players residing in the city of Los Santos and surrounding areas, countryside and beaches, which will be the largest and most ambitious game created by Rockstar.

“Grand Theft Auto V is another radical reinvention of the Grand Theft Auto universe. We are incredibly excited to share our new vision with our fans,” said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. ”

According to Rockstar, the title will take on a “bold new direction in open-world freedom, storytelling, mission-based gameplay and online multiplayer, Grand Theft Auto V focuses on the pursuit of the almighty dollar in a re-imagined, present-day Southern California.”

The GTA franchise has managed to sell more than 114-million copies worldwide, and while Grand Theft Auto V follows up to 2008’s record-breaking Grand Theft Auto IV, Rockstar has won numerous awards for their Western shooter Red Dead Redemption and the detective thriller L.A. Noire.
