Gold Field Ghana, the Ghanaian operation of mining company Gold Fields Limited, has adopted Mimecast’s cloud-based email archiving solution to solve its e-mail availability and compliance challenges.
“Email is a widely-used, mission-critical tool at the mines. Six hundred and fifty staff use email for the execution of duties every day”, said Steve Larbi, group IT manager for Gold Fields Ghana, one of the worlds largest unhedged producers of gold.
The mining company will use SaaS-based email archiving from email management company Mimecast, benefiting from a secured, spam-free and virus-free network.
Mimecast’s email archiving is hosted in South Africa and two global locations and has triple redundancy built into its network infrastructure.
”In the event of an email server outage, employees can continue to work uninterrupted within Outlook or through a Web console. Since the email management functions are delivered before any messages enter Gold Fields Ghana’s network perimeter, additional benefits have been realised such as reduced bandwidth requirements and consistent policy application regardless of physical location”, explained Business Development and Alliance Director for Mimecast South Africa, Grant Hodgkinson.
According to Larbi, using Mimecast’s email archiving solutions ensures the standards and policies required for Gold Fields, which is listed on five different stock exchanges, including the Johannesburg and New York Stock Exchange. The company is also working on adopting Mimecast’s e-mail branding opportunities, in addition to email archiving and spam filtering, he said.
