The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) has issued a statement saying that a ‘malicious’ code had been added to its website, and that it was putting computers visiting its website at risk of infection.
It said that problem was reported on Saturday.
Says COSATU spokesperson Patrick Craven: “Somebody has added malicious code to the COSATU web site, www.cosatu.org.za, such that the site is downloading a virus into visitors’ computers, if visitors log on to it,”
“This was reported to us at COSATU less than one hour ago by one of COSATU’s affiliates.”
Craven said they are working with Telkom to clean out the virus.
“We at COSATU have investigated the problem and are taking steps to have the malicious virus-generating code cleaned out of our web site by our current service provider, Telkom,” he added.
It is currently unclear exactly what kind of virus is on the site, and it is unknown when the problem will be resolved.
