Visafone now 4th largest operator in Nigeria

March 13, 2009 • Mobile and Telecoms

vfone.gifAccording to a report on nigerianbulletin.com, Visafone is now the 4th largest mobile network operator in Nigeria, with around 2.7 million subscribers.

The report states that the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) put Visafone’s subscriber base at around 2.2 million at the end of 2008, but that the company has since grown that number by 500,000 users of its mobile telephony services.

The article further attributes the operator’s strong growth numbers to an aggressive rollout strategy, combining a large geographical network service footprint with relatively cheap mobile handsets on offer to consumers.

Visafone, which commenced its Nigerian mobile operations in February 2008, has already collected almost a dozen industry awards, including Best Telecom Brand and ICT Company of the Year.
