A report on the state of South Africa’s national broadcaster, the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), has been handed to the country’s Minister of Communications, Dr. Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri.
Authored by auditing firm Deloitte, the report is expected to highlight various issues around management and administration of the SABC, which has come under fire from various interest groups, trade unions and the media over the last few years.
The contents of the report have not yet been made public. Says the Department of Communications: “Considering that the Department has just received the report, the Minister is busy studying it with the view to formulating appropriate corrective measures. The preliminary report suggests some short-comings with regard to corporate governance practices among other things which will be discussed with Board and Management,”
The Minister will base recommendations on the Deloitte, as well as two other independent reports.
