More details have emerged about the previously postponed Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) workshops on a Draft Terrestrial Broadcasting Frequency Plan for the country, to be held this week in Sandton, Johannesburg.
The focus of the workshop is the administration of the country’s planned migration from analog to digital broadcast signals. In a statement, ICASA said about the workshops: The purpose of the frequency plan is to deal with the allotment of broadcasting frequencies, with specific emphasis on frequencies that will be assigned for digital migration purposes,”
According to ICASA, the agenda for the first day of the workshop will be its Approach Policy and Regulatory Issues around the intended migration, while the second day’s agenda would be addressing technical issues.
ICT industry companies MTN, Vodacom, Telkom and Sentech are expected to be among the private sector participants in the workshop.
