East Africa Com less than one week away

East Africa’s pre-eminent Information and Communication Technology (ICT) conference, East Africa Com, will commence on 01 April 2009 at the Safari Park hotel in Nairobi, Kenya.

The fifth instalment of the conference will see key players in the ICT sector from countries in the region converge on the Kenyan capital. Conference organisers expect representation from Kenya, Burundi, Comoros Islands, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.

Broadband will be a focus area of the conference, as well as opportunities created by increased availability of bandwidth and related services in the telecom and mobile markets. Mobile operators are looking to 3G and HSPA for high-speed data services, while wireless technologies such as CDMA-WLL and WiMAX are gaining momentum among internet service providers (ISPs).

The region’s mobile network providers and ISPs will also be well represented, with senior personnel from Zain, MTN, Orange Telkom Kenya, Econet Wireless, Flashcom, Warid Telecom and more sharing their views on technology, business strategy and related ICT issues.

Safaricom, the leading Kenyan operator, will be opening the 2nd day of East Africa Com and their CEO,Michael Joseph, will be able to address questions around its involvement with various undersea cable projects, including the SEACOM and TEAMS cables that will soon connect the region’s ICT networks to the rest of the globe.
