Foris, Runcom launch WiMAX Network in Mozambique

Foris Telecom, the leading WiMAX operator in developing countries, and Runcom Technologies, the ODFMA pioneer, announced today at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona the successful completion of a Site Acceptance Test (SAT) of the first Mobile WiMAX network in Maputo, Mozambique. The SAT completion is the last stage before the commercial launch of the WiMAX services, scheduled to start in April 1st, 2009.

The system deployed in Maputo consists of complete end-to-end IEEE802.16e Mobile WiMAX system based on Runcom’s OFDMA technology including CPEs, base-stations, ASN Gateway, and advanced NOC solution with AAA, billing and other value added services.

“The success in Mozambique will be a model for our aggressive expansion plan for broadband wireless services based on Runcom’s WiMAX technology in Malawi, Zambia, Botswana, Uganda, Cameron, Central Africa, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Congo Brazzaville, Guinea Conakry, Kazakhstan and Haiti, in which Foris holds WiMAX licenses,” said Dov Sluk, Chairman and CEO of Foris Telecom.
